ABOUT ELEANORI was born in the UK and spent my formative years in London, surrounded by the abundance of the art scene there, grazing on the different genres of literature, theatre, music and fine art. I completed my undergraduate degree at Manchester University and my M.Phil. at King’s College at the University of London. I married and moved to Toronto in 1975, where I have made my home since. I received my Ph.D. from the University of Toronto and have studied at the Ontario College of Art & Design.
My travels that taken me to countries such as India, Kenya, Namibia, Tanzania, Ghana, Egypt, Guinea, Italy, Israel, Switzerland and France, and are the inspiration for my art work. The people I have met, the sounds, colours, pace and richness of different cultures are at the heart of the design in my non-objective art. |
TRANSITIONS & PASSAGES
|
Abstracting the human form in watercolour ink, allowed for the fluidity of expression that has become a signature of her work in later years. Whether using watercolour inks in her earlier work, or acrylics, her bold images demonstrate an understanding of the human form beyond the structure. Her more recent figure paintings have a sculpture-like quality and presence. The transition to landscapes – in Honduras, Mexico, Africa and Ontario – capture the energy of the setting, offering a realistic image to the audience. Her most recent exploration of non-objective art, shows the transition to focusing on design and colour solely as a form of art expression.
